dancing

I had to go see Webster Hall for work the other day, for event venue scouting purposes, and had serious flashbacks. I haven’t been in Webster Hall since I was in my early 20s, dancing with drag queens. Ahh, those were the days. Many of the places we used to go dancing are not really around any more — The Roxy, Danceteria, Limelight (pretty sure that’s gone), but have lots of good memories of getting home to NJ at 3 a.m., totally spent and wired in a good way.

  1. Remember when Webster Hall was the Ritz? I saw SO many shows there. My primary memory of it when it was Webster Hall is from the early ’90s, when I went to a Prince record release party (I think he was still called Prince then). He didn’t show up, but Mayte, who later became Mrs. Unpronounceable-Symbol, was there, belly dancing in what I believe was an enormous goldfish bowl. It made quite an impression, I’ll tell you.

  2. oh that is so cool! i wasn’t around when webster hall was the ritz. i think i only went to ritz concerts when it was in midtown, like that’s where i saw peter murphy and jesus and mary chain. i love the belly dancing in a fish bowl. that’s quite memorable.
