So climate change. When you’re outside in the summer, and it feels like the sun is actively trying to incinerate you, it’s hard to deny that the climate is getting harsher. When the Canadian wildfires turned Brooklyn skies orange and the air quality into the sewer, that was weird. When this summer had wildfires in Brooklyn’s Propsect Park, that was shocking, as that’s normally a West Coast disaster. Right now, the people I know in L.A. seem okay, their homes in tact, though being part of a community where there is so much suffering — ugh, I don’t know. But one LA friends said, look NYC has seen some tough times too and you got through. IT was tremendously practical advice.
I don’t want to only post when things are looking back. Frankly, I think 2025 is going to be tough and so we have to gird our loins, you know? Look for silver linings and try to avoid being paralyzed with despair whenever possible, to see the good that is happening in the moment of excruciating moments. Like Mexico and Canada sent volunteer firemen! Is that not a huge act of human kindness? Stupid president to be said something negative about LA, and you know what? Does anyone care? Does he have any power? I just feel like we should collectively ignore him.
As I told my friend in LA and I tell the kids, I plan on out living this guy, my children will definitely outlive him, and even when things look bad, no one knows what the future will bring.
